Dutch sprinter Lorena Wiebes secured her second consecutive win at the Tour de France Femmes, triumphing in stage two. Last year's green jersey winner, Wiebes, who is regarded as the fastest female sprinter in the peloton, surged ahead of the pack with just 250 metres remaining, winning by several bike lengths and extending her overall lead.

The stage covered a challenging 147.9km route from Aigle to Geneva in Switzerland, primarily alongside the picturesque lakeside. The peloton, in a fierce chase, managed to catch Lidl-Trek rider Riejanne Markus, who had attempted a solo breakaway within the final kilometre.

Wiebes expressed her excitement, stating, "The girls were chasing full gas to bring back Riejanne Markus, so it is even more beautiful to finish it off in the yellow jersey." She acknowledged the pressure ahead, noting, "Every sprint is quite exciting - one small mistake and it is over. It will be hard to keep it [the yellow jersey] tomorrow, but we will try our best."

At 27 years old, the Team SD Worx-Protime rider has now achieved a remarkable total of seven stage victories at the Tour de France Femmes, solidifying her record as the most successful rider since the race's return to the World Tour calendar in 2022.

Elisa Balsamo from Italy finished in second place, while veteran Marianne Vos, 39, from the Netherlands, crossed the line in third. Great Britain's Josie Nelson and Zoe Backstedt finished sixth and seventh, respectively.

Looking ahead, the 2026 Tour de France Femmes features 147 riders competing across nine stages, including an ascent of the iconic Mont Ventoux on stage seven. Stage three on Monday will present a steep 11km climb just outside Geneva, concluding with a flat 15km stretch to the finish line at Poligny. While the climb may challenge Wiebes, the flat distance could provide SD Worx-Protime with a chance to regroup and mount a chase.
