Liverpool have reportedly retained an interest in Inter Milan midfielder Aleksandar Stankovic after exploring the possibility of signing him during negotiations for Curtis Jones.

The Serbian midfielder emerged while Liverpool and Inter were discussing a deal for Jones, allowing the Reds to gather insights into Stankovic’s situation. Although replacing Jones was not an immediate priority, Liverpool aimed to understand if the 21-year-old could be available, as per TEAMtalk.

Stankovic's Rising Profile

Stankovic has developed into an exciting midfield prospect, showcasing his talent during his time away from Inter. Key points include:

• Background: The son of Nerazzurri legend Dejan Stankovic, he came through Inter’s academy.
• Experience: Gained valuable playing time with Luzern and Club Brugge, where his performances established him as one of Europe’s promising young defensive midfielders.
• Interest: Attracted attention from several clubs, including Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, earlier this summer.

Inter decided to bring Stankovic back to Milan after activating their buy-back option but considered letting him leave again, with a loan deal featuring an obligation to buy among the discussed options. Liverpool was one of the clubs that inquired, but Inter ultimately opted to retain the midfielder after Cristian Chivu expressed confidence in his potential impact on the first team.

Future Considerations

While Liverpool is currently satisfied with their midfield options and has given Trey Nyoni a chance in the senior setup following Jones’ exit, they are expected to reassess their midfield needs next year. Stankovic may remain on their radar, and his progress at Inter will be closely monitored. A strong season under Chivu could complicate any future transfer, but for now, Liverpool seems content to watch his development before deciding on another approach.
