Tampa Bay Lightning winger Nikita Kucherov has been crowned the 2026 Hart Trophy winner, marking the second time he has claimed the NHL's most prestigious MVP award. Kucherov triumphed over formidable finalists Connor McDavid and Nathan MacKinnon, solidifying his place among the league's elite.

The competition for the Hart Trophy was fierce, with all three finalists showcasing outstanding seasons. Notably, Macklin Celebrini of the San Jose Sharks made a compelling case for MVP despite not being a finalist. Kucherov's exceptional performance this season includes:

• 44 goals (8th in the NHL)
• 86 assists (2nd in the NHL)
• 130 points (2nd in the NHL)

Beyond the statistics, Kucherov's ability to influence play significantly contributed to the Lightning's success. At five-on-five, the team boasted a 57.0% expected goals share and a remarkable plus-38 goal differential, according to Natural Stat Trick.

Kucherov joins Martin St. Louis as the only Lightning player to win the Hart Trophy, and he becomes the first in franchise history to achieve this honor twice. His accolades further include being part of a list with Andrei Vasilevskiy (Vezina Trophy) and Jon Cooper (Jack Adams Award), who also received individual honors during the 2025-26 season.

Despite his outstanding performance, McDavid missed out on the Hart after winning the Art Ross Trophy as the NHL's leading scorer with 138 points, while MacKinnon fell short after securing the Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy for his 53 goals.
