Lewis Moody received a hero’s welcome at Twickenham’s Allianz Stadium after finishing a 500-mile charity cycling challenge aimed at combating motor neurone disease (MND). The former England captain, diagnosed with MND last year, raised over £500,000 for the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation during this remarkable endeavor.

Moody’s challenging route took him from Newcastle, passing through his former clubs Leicester and Bath, culminating at Bracknell RFC, where his rugby journey began. He arrived just in time to deliver the match ball before the Prem final between Northampton and Exeter.

Accompanied by rugby legends like Martin Johnson and Jonny Wilkinson, Moody celebrated with friends and family, including his wife Annie and sons Dylan and Ethan, after completing the ride.

Reflecting on his journey, Moody stated, "Throughout this ride, we've met so many people living with MND... it is a difficult disease. But there is hope in this space now, because of the work Doddie did, because of the work Rob Burrow did, and because of the work I want to do."

He emphasized the importance of raising funds to make a significant impact in the fight against MND, acknowledging the emotional support from teammates and the community along the route.

The My Name'5 Doddie Foundation, established by the late Doddie Weir, has committed over £23.5 million to research for effective treatments and a cure for MND. Moody concluded, "It's been fantastic to all come together to try and help us tackle motor neuron disease."
