Lewis Hamilton expressed frustration over his third pit stop during the Hungarian Grand Prix, which he believes was unnecessary and contributed to a costly penalty. The incident occurred on lap 56 when a Virtual Safety Car was deployed due to Oscar Piastri's technical issues, leading Ferrari to pit Hamilton again.

This decision resulted in Hamilton losing valuable track position to Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing, who opted not to pit, and subsequently to Kimi Antonelli of Mercedes, dropping Hamilton to fourth place.

Compounding his troubles, Hamilton was investigated for speeding in the pit lane, receiving a five-second penalty for exceeding the 80kph limit by just 0.1kph. Unable to regain his position against Antonelli, Hamilton finished fifth after the penalty was applied.

In an interview with Sky Sports F1, Hamilton reflected on the decision to pit under the VSC, stating:

I definitely don't think we should have taken the stop. In hindsight, my tyres were totally fine. I was probably going to lose out to Max but I think I could have kept third at least.

This penalty marked Hamilton's second in as many days, following a three-place grid drop for impeding Piastri during qualifying. He had already incurred penalties in the previous two races, further complicating his standings in the Drivers' Championship, where he now trails Antonelli by 50 points.

Despite recent challenges, Hamilton remains optimistic about the season's prospects and acknowledges the need to minimize mistakes to avoid further penalties. He stated, "I've got to work hard to not give them any opportunity to give me any more penalties moving forwards." With the F1 season on a break, Hamilton aims to regroup and return stronger.
