Lewis Hamilton thrilled the home crowd by securing pole position for the sprint race at the British Grand Prix. Driving for Ferrari, Hamilton edged out Kimi Antonelli of Mercedes, who claimed second, while Max Verstappen from Red Bull finished third.

The pole position came as a surprise, given that Ferrari was expected to lag behind Mercedes at the power-dominated Silverstone track. From the start of Friday's practice sessions, Hamilton showed impressive form, topping the timesheets in every session of sprint qualifying. He narrowly beat Antonelli by just 11 thousandths of a second, clocking a time of 1 minute 28.376 seconds. George Russell, Antonelli's teammate, finished fifth, trailing Hamilton significantly in the standings.

Despite his success, Hamilton expressed disbelief at outpacing both Mercedes and Red Bull. "I love this place, I love this crowd, and I can’t express to you how big a dream it is," he stated. He emphasized the importance of setup and teamwork in achieving his pole position.

In the earlier qualifying rounds, Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris from McLaren briefly held the top spots before Hamilton's final lap secured his victory.

This weekend's British Grand Prix is expected to attract approximately 570,000 fans, breaking the previous attendance record. Notably, 43% of ticket sales are to female fans, highlighting a shift in audience demographics. Norris remarked on the increasing female presence in Formula One, celebrating the growth of a diverse audience and the sport's evolution.
