Leigh Halfpenny, the former Wales and British and Irish Lions full-back, has officially committed his coaching career to Cardiff. At 37 years old, he transitions from player to coach after concluding his playing days as a player-coach at Cardiff during the 2025-26 season.

Halfpenny served as Wales' kicking coach during the recent Nations Championship summer campaign, where he showcased his expertise. Moving forward, he will focus on developing senior players and nurturing aspiring talent within the academy as a skills coach at the Arms Park.

In his own words, Halfpenny expressed enthusiasm about his new role:

There is a great group of players, who I enjoyed working with last season, and I believe I can add value to the group, while also helping the young players coming through.

He also reflected on his experience with the national team:

It was a huge honour to work with Wales again this summer, I'm extremely grateful for the opportunity and I'm looking forward to bringing that experience back to the club.

Cardiff head coach Corniel van Zyl praised Halfpenny's significant contributions, highlighting his impressive record of scoring 801 points and earning 101 Wales caps, along with his status as a respected three-time Lions tourist. Van Zyl stated:

It is clear and evident from last year's work that all of our kickers improved. He is so professional and diligent in everything he does.

Halfpenny's new full-time role will encompass working with kickers on goal-kicking, touch-kicking, and scrum-half techniques, alongside his involvement in the academy. Van Zyl is eager to see the positive impact Halfpenny will have on the club's future.
