Leeds United faced a crucial decision regarding their financial health, admitting they would have breached Premier League financial regulations if they had not sold defender Pascal Struijk to Brighton & Hove Albion. The transfer, finalized on 30 June, marked the end of the financial year and potentially spared Leeds from a points penalty, allowing them to remain compliant with Profit & Sustainability Rules (PSR).

To address their financial situation, Leeds needed to offset significant expenditures, having invested over £100m in new signings last summer to bolster their squad after promotion. Key players acquired included Anton Stach, Lukas Nmecha, Noah Okafor, Sean Longstaff, Gabriel Gudmundsson, Lucas Perri, Jaka Bijol, James Justin, and Sebastiaan Bornauw. Despite these investments, Leeds managed to secure a respectable 14th-place finish and advanced to the Emirates FA Cup semi-final, validating their strategy.

Although Struijk was offered an improved contract at Elland Road, he chose to join Brighton, who needed defensive reinforcements after selling Jan Paul van Hecke to Tottenham for £52m. Leeds emphasized the necessity of balancing player incomings and outgoings, as outlined by chairman Paraag Marathe.

Looking ahead, Leeds aims to strengthen their squad further, with Harry Wilson in line for a free transfer from Fulham and Julian Brandt, who is departing Borussia Dortmund, also on their radar.
