Sebastiaan Bornauw is increasingly likely to leave Leeds United this summer, with Hamburg making significant strides in their pursuit of the Belgian defender. Negotiations between the clubs have reportedly reached an advanced stage, although the proposed structure may frustrate some Leeds supporters.

Bornauw joined Leeds from Wolfsburg last year but struggled to secure a regular spot under manager Daniel Farke. Despite participating in the club's pre-season preparations, he is now looking for a move that offers him greater playing opportunities.

Hamburg has emerged as the strongest candidate, aiming to finalize an agreement soon. According to Florian Plettenberg, the Bundesliga side desires to sign Bornauw on an initial loan, with a non-compulsory purchase option included. This aspect of the deal could disappoint Leeds fans, especially given the club's goal to move away from loaning out players they no longer deem essential.

Bornauw still holds a long-term contract at Elland Road, and allowing him to leave on a temporary basis without a guaranteed permanent transfer could create uncertainty about his future.
