Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe expressed optimism about his chances of winning the Ballon d'Or this year, marking his potential first victory of the prestigious award. The 27-year-old striker had an impressive season, netting 42 goals in 44 games for his club, despite the team's failure to secure any trophies.

In addition to his club success, Mbappe also shone on the international stage, winning the World Cup Golden Boot with 10 goals, bringing his overall World Cup tally to a record 22 goals, although France finished in fourth place.

Mbappe stated, "I think when you play for Real Madrid, the best club in the world, people associate you with this award." He acknowledged the discussions surrounding his candidacy, saying, "Of course I've made history in the most important competition. Maybe it's a good year for this but people can vote according to what they think."

He maintained confidence in his abilities, asserting, "I always think I'm the best [player in the world] but everyone has their own opinion."

Currently, Harry Kane leads the odds to win the Ballon d'Or after an outstanding season with Bayern Munich, where he scored a club-record 61 goals in 51 games and added six goals in the World Cup. Lamine Yamal, who celebrated success with Barcelona and the Spanish national team, follows as the second favorite, with Rodri in third, completing the top contenders. The award ceremony will take place on 26 October.
