Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has disclosed the extravagant efforts the club made to sign Kylian Mbappe before he chose to join Paris St-Germain in 2017. Klopp described the attempt as the "most expensive non-transfer" in Liverpool's history, highlighting the lengths they went to in courting the then-Monaco star.

In a candid discussion before France's match against Morocco in the World Cup semi-finals, Klopp shared details of the club's ambitious plan:

• A private jet was arranged for Mbappe and his family, featuring five rooms for comfort.
• The flight, originating from Blackpool to Nice, aimed to create a private and luxurious environment for discussions.
• During the flight, Klopp and the family enjoyed gourmet meals while attempting to persuade them.

Despite their efforts, the meeting did not yield the desired outcome, and Mbappe ultimately signed with PSG on a loan deal that included a €180 million option for a permanent transfer. He went on to become PSG's all-time leading goal scorer before moving to Real Madrid in 2024.

Klopp, who managed Liverpool for nine years, secured a Champions League and Premier League title before his departure in 2024. He is now anticipated to be appointed as the next head coach of the German national team.
