Kyle Kirkwood secured a remarkable victory at the Freedom 250 IndyCar race, marking his second win of the season on the streets of downtown Washington. The event celebrated the nation’s 250th birthday, with President Donald Trump waving the green flag to start the race and DC Mayor Muriel Bowser serving as grand marshal.

Kirkwood showcased a dominant performance, leading for 128 of 147 laps, and finished the race 3.09 seconds ahead of Christian Lundgaard. His teammates from Andretti Global, Will Power and Marcus Ericsson, rounded out the top four, finishing third and fourth respectively.

The race encountered early challenges, as the field went under caution shortly after the start due to debris in Turn 4. A significant crash involving David Malukas and Sting Ray Robb eliminated two American drivers early on.

Alex Palou, who started from pole position and aimed to clinch the series title, faced a disastrous race, finishing 20th—his second-worst result of the year. Palou's day deteriorated with a drive-through penalty for hitting a tire during a pit stop, followed by a loose tire on another stop that set him back further. He ultimately spun out, reducing his lead in the standings over Kirkwood from 133 points to 91 with only three races remaining.

Kirkwood maintained his commanding lead, and despite a late caution caused by Scott McLaughlin crashing into a tire barrier, he executed a strong restart with 13 laps to go, ensuring his victory in the 250-mile race.
