The New York Knicks have claimed their first NBA championship in 53 years, marking a historic moment for the franchise. The parade is set for Thursday in Manhattan, as announced by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani shortly after the Knicks secured victory over the San Antonio Spurs in Game 5 of the 2026 NBA Finals.

This event will be the inaugural parade in Knicks history, as no celebrations were held after their previous titles in 1970 or 1973. The parade will traverse the Canyon of Heroes on Broadway, from The Battery to City Hall, where the team will receive keys to the city. Additionally, City Hall and other municipal buildings will be illuminated in the team's iconic blue and orange colors.

Mayor Mamdani expressed the significance of this victory:

For more than 50 years, New Yorkers have waited for this moment... This team fulfilled that hope with grit, resilience and heart.

The Knicks achieved this championship after a thrilling 16-point comeback win against the Spurs, having previously executed a 29-point comeback in Game 4, setting records for the largest comeback in Finals history. All five games of the Finals were closely contested, with the Knicks winning Games 2 and 4 by just a point.

Jalen Brunson shone as the Finals MVP, establishing a Knicks Finals scoring record with 45 points in Game 5. His performance included an average of 32.6 points, showcasing his pivotal role in the series.

Knicks head coach Mike Brown shared his disbelief and excitement, stating, "It's a surreal feeling... I love my players, love the organization, but more importantly, let's go New York. We can't wait to get back home."
