Olympic 800m champion Keely Hodgkinson faced a disappointing finish, coming in second behind Lilian Odira at the Diamond League event in Eugene. This marks Hodgkinson's second consecutive loss in the series, as Odira, the reigning world champion, surged past her in the final moments of the race, clocking a season's best of 1:56.19.

Hodgkinson finished with a time of 1:56.73, falling short of her own British record set in Stockholm in June and well off the oldest world record of 1:53.28 set by Jarmila Kratochvilova in 1983. The race proved challenging for Hodgkinson, who competed with both knees heavily strapped due to a previous fall, affecting her start.

This season has been mixed for Hodgkinson, who had to withdraw from the 400m final at the UK Athletics Championships last month due to a minor injury. The 24-year-old has been focusing on shorter distances to enhance her first-lap speed in hopes of breaking the 800m world record this summer.
