Argentina striker Julian Alvarez has expressed his desire to leave Atletico Madrid in pursuit of his footballing dreams. The 26-year-old forward has attracted attention from top clubs, including Barcelona and Paris St-Germain.

Earlier in June, Atletico rejected a staggering 150 million euro (£130 million) bid from rivals Real Madrid for Alvarez, highlighting his value to the team. Currently, he is participating in the World Cup with Argentina, having recently recovered from an ankle injury and coming off the bench in their first two matches.

After Argentina's World Cup victory over Austria, Alvarez stated, "I spoke with the people at [Atletico] I needed to speak with, and the best thing for everyone is a transfer. I want to fulfil my dream." He acknowledged the sensitivity of the situation, saying, "It's not the time to talk about this, but I also can't hide it. I try to be an honest person."

Alvarez joined Atletico Madrid from Manchester City for £81.5 million in the summer of 2024. Since then, he has made a significant impact, scoring 49 goals and providing 17 assists across 106 appearances for Diego Simeone's side.

Despite a stellar start with 17 goals in his first La Liga season, his performance dipped to eight goals in 2025-26. However, he shone in the Champions League, netting 10 goals and helping Atletico reach the semi-finals, where they ultimately fell to Arsenal.
