Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs has been placed on the Commissioner's Exempt List, as announced by the NFL. This designation prohibits him from practicing or attending games, casting doubt on his availability for Week 1.

The decision follows Jacobs' recent charges of two misdemeanors stemming from a May arrest. The 28-year-old faces charges of battery and damage to property, both classified as Class A misdemeanors. Initially, police had referred five alleged offenses for potential prosecution, including:

• Battery
• Criminal damage to property
• Disorderly conduct involving domestic abuse
• Strangulation and suffocation
• Intimidation of a victim

However, the Brown County district attorney formally charged Jacobs only with battery and damage to property on Thursday.

In a statement via ESPN, Jacobs' attorneys—David Z. Chesnoff, Richard A. Schonfeld, and Clarence F. Duchac III—explained the situation:

Josh Jacobs has been placed on the Commissioner's Exempt List, which is an administrative procedure used by the NFL while a matter is being reviewed. It is not a final determination. Jacobs is entering his third season with the Packers after signing a four-year, $48 million deal in March 2024. Previously, he played for the Las Vegas Raiders, who drafted him in the first round (No. 24 overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft from Alabama. Over his career, Jacobs has earned three Pro Bowl selections and was named a first-team All-Pro in 2022 after leading the NFL in rushing.
