Jose Mourinho launched a passionate defense of his team after Real Madrid suffered a 2-1 defeat to Atletico Madrid. Following the match, Mourinho expressed his frustrations with the officiating, suggesting that Atletico could have received two red cards in the first half.

The defeat added to the mounting pressure on Mourinho, as it followed a previous 1-0 loss to Real Betis earlier in September, leaving Real Madrid six points behind league leaders Barcelona.

Mourinho stated, "We can skip the press conference because the story of the match is right here," while displaying printed images of the contentious moments. He emphasized the impact of playing against 10 men and speculated about how the game would have unfolded with Atletico down to nine players.

He continued, "So I'll just have to limit myself to hugging my players, who gave it their all... I liked my team as a unit. Even in the first half I really liked them."

Despite the loss, Mourinho praised his players' determination and cohesion, expressing hope that the controversial calls were mere mistakes.

In contrast, Diego Simeone, the Atletico manager, refrained from engaging in a public dispute with Mourinho. He underscored the importance of respect among coaches and the need to be cautious with their words, stating, "We need to be careful about what we say... when someone crosses that line of respect, it's not right."
