Jonas Vingegaard showcased his dominance in the Giro d’Italia by clinching his second stage win in three days during stage nine. The 184km stage from Cervia saw him outpace rival Felix Gall, further establishing himself as the favorite for the first Grand Tour of the year.

Gall’s team, Decathlon CMA CGM, controlled the race throughout the day, aiming for a stage victory. He made a bold move with 2.2km remaining on the challenging Corno alle Scale climb, but Vingegaard was quick to follow, leaving Giulio Pellizzari of Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe struggling behind.

Giulio Ciccone of Lidl-Trek, a fan favorite, initially looked poised for success after breaking away with 74km to go. He managed to drop Einer Rubio of Movistar but was ultimately caught by Vingegaard and Gall in the final 2km. Ciccone expressed his frustration post-race, stating, "Again, they don't want me up there from the start."

Vingegaard made his decisive move with 900m remaining, leaving Gall behind and finishing 12 seconds ahead. Despite this, Afonso Eulalio held onto the maglia rosa, finishing fifth and maintaining a two-minute and 24 seconds lead over Vingegaard in the overall standings.

Vingegaard’s teammate, Davide Piganzoli, also shone, finishing third and securing crucial bonus seconds. Meanwhile, former Giro champion Jai Hindley lost time, finishing ninth, while Pellizzari dropped to 22nd place.

As the race heads into a rest day, Gall remains Vingegaard’s closest competitor, sitting 35 seconds back. The Giro resumes on Tuesday with a pivotal 42km individual time trial, a crucial test for Gall against Vingegaard’s formidable time-trialing abilities.
