Jonas Vingegaard launched his bid for a third Tour de France title with an impressive performance in the opening stage, a 19.6-km team time trial held in Barcelona on Saturday. Vingegaard, riding for Visma-Lease a Bike, clocked the fastest time, finishing 12 seconds ahead of his closest competitor, Tadej Pogacar, a four-time champion and last year's runner-up.

The 29-year-old Dane expressed satisfaction with his team's execution, stating, "I would say it's the perfect start. It's still a long tour, obviously, but it's the perfect start." Vingegaard's teammates played a crucial role, expertly guiding him to the finish line, allowing him to reclaim the yellow jersey for the first time in three years.

Filippo Ganna of Netcompany-Ineos secured second place, showcasing a strong performance despite teammate Kevin Vauquelin suffering a slow puncture. Other notable finishes included:

• Jordan Jegat (Total Energies) set an early benchmark.
• Romain Gregoire (Groupama-FDJ United) finished in 22 minutes and 28 seconds.
• Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Premier Tech) narrowly missed the lead, finishing just two seconds faster than Gregoire.
• Juan Ayuso (Lidl-Trek) collapsed after crossing the finish line, finishing fourth, 16 seconds behind Vingegaard.

In a standout moment, Paul Seixas, a 19-year-old debutant, finished in 10th place, 39 seconds off the pace. Seixas remarked, "We expected to see time gaps like that, I think we put in a good performance today."

The Tour continues on Sunday with a challenging 169-km hilly ride from Tarragona to Barcelona.
