Jonas Vingegaard celebrated his second stage win of the Giro d'Italia with a powerful performance on stage nine, effectively reducing the gap on the overall leader, Afonso Eulalio. Vingegaard executed a strategic move, following Austria’s Felix Gall with approximately 2.3km remaining in the 184km route.

In a thrilling finish, Vingegaard, representing Team Visma and making his debut in the Giro d'Italia, broke away from Gall with about 900m to go, securing victory by a margin of 12 seconds. This win adds to his previous victory on stage seven.

Despite finishing 41 seconds behind Vingegaard, Eulalio retained his leader’s pink jersey heading into a well-deserved rest day on Monday, followed by a challenging 42km individual time trial on Tuesday. Eulalio currently holds a two minute 24 second lead over Vingegaard in the general classification, with Gall trailing in third place, two minutes and 59 seconds off the lead.

Reflecting on his win, Vingegaard stated, "We didn't want to pull for the stage today and we realised quite quickly that Decathlon wanted to go for the stage. It's always nice with a win, something I'm super happy with. My team-mates did a super good job."

He expressed confidence in his position, saying, "I'm in a good situation at the moment for GC and, so far, everything is looking good for us. We are happy where we are." This stage victory positions Vingegaard as a strong contender as the race progresses.
