Former Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran has officially joined Benfica on a season-long loan from Al-Nassr, marking a significant step in his young career at just 22 years old. This move represents Duran's seventh club and seventh country, following previous spells with Fenerbahce and Zenit St Petersburg.

Benfica has agreed to pay a loan fee of £5.19m (approximately 6.1m euros) for the Colombian international, with an option to make the transfer permanent for £25.5m (around 30m euros) at the conclusion of the 2026-27 season.

Duran expressed his excitement about the move, stating, "I am happy! I continue to say that it is the biggest club in Portugal. I am very grateful to be here. I have very high expectations of being here. I want to play well, give my all and become champion."

His journey began in 2019 with Colombian side Envigado, before moving to Chicago Fire in 2022. Duran's rise continued when he joined Aston Villa for £14m in January 2023, quickly becoming a fan favorite. After a notable moment scoring a winner against Bayern Munich in the Champions League, he transferred to Al-Nassr for a hefty £71m in January 2025.

Despite netting eight goals in 13 appearances for Al-Nassr, he moved on to Fenerbahce on loan, which was cut short after the managerial change. A brief stint at Zenit followed, where he scored three goals in nine matches. Now, Duran aims to establish himself at Benfica, hoping to thrive in his new environment.
