The 25-year-old forward was heavily linked with a summer transfer, particularly to clubs in Serie A, but no deal was finalized before the transfer deadline.

Despite being a part of the squad, Zirkzee is struggling to find playing time, with manager Michael Carrick seemingly favoring other options in the attack. This situation also affects Shea Lacey, a promising academy winger who missed out on the matchday squad during the recent 2-2 draw with Everton.
