Jan Paul van Hecke has expressed his excitement following his recent transfer to Tottenham Hotspur from Brighton & Hove Albion for £52 million. This marks a significant step in his career after a successful six-year stint at Brighton, where he played a crucial role in the team’s journey to Premier League safety under manager Roberto De Zerbi.

Currently participating in the World Cup, Van Hecke shared insights about the transfer process, noting, "A lot of calls, and of course I’ve not been involved the whole time in this subject." He expressed gratitude towards Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman for allowing him time to focus on this pivotal move, stating, "I’m grateful for this because this is a great step forwards in my professional career."

Reflecting on his time at Brighton, he said, "I am proud to have played for Brighton, it boosted my confidence, but now I will play for one of the most important clubs in England. It’s important for my future, but now I’m focused on the World Cup here."

The transfer also benefits his former clubs, with NAC Breda set to receive approximately £3.5 million due to a sell-on clause, and VV Goes benefiting from the move as well.

Van Hecke’s uncle, Jan Poortvliet, commented on the transfer, highlighting De Zerbi's influence:

Several clubs were interested but De Zerbi was clear and absolutely wanted him. Jan Paul would have been at the top of the list.

In addition to Van Hecke, Spurs have also secured Andy Robertson from Liverpool and Marcos Senesi from Bournemouth on free transfers, indicating a strong commitment to strengthening their squad.
