Jamie Smith sets his sights on using The Hundred as a platform to re-enter England's white-ball plans. The 26-year-old wicketkeeper last played T20 cricket for England 13 months ago, scoring a remarkable 60 against West Indies. However, a disappointing 21.77 average in 19 ODIs led to his exclusion from the 50-over squad.

With England head coach Brendon McCullum keenly observing the competition, Smith hopes to impress after being signed for £300,000 by Southern Brave. The Brave's first match against Welsh Fire at Utilita Bowl marks Smith's return to T20 cricket since playing for London Spirit last August.

Smith expressed his aspirations:

It was disappointing to be dropped because my aspiration is to be playing three formats for England. The Hundred is a great competition because it gives you that springboard where you can put on a few performances against some of the best players in the world.

Expected to bat at the top of the order, Smith also looks forward to learning from teammates David Miller, Tristan Stubbs, and Marcus Stoinis. He acknowledged the importance of gaining experience from successful players in the middle order.

While focusing on The Hundred, Smith reflected on recent changes in the England setup, including the retirement of captain Ben Stokes and the sacking of McCullum. He noted:

It was a big shock. The way their partnership had been over four years... it was a really nice environment where you could go out and express yourself.

As Southern Brave kick off their campaign, Smith remains hopeful for a bright future in international cricket.
