A year after suffering a heart attack, hooker Jack Singleton is optimistic about returning to full training next month, aiming to revive his rugby union career. Singleton experienced the heart attack at age 29 while training with Gloucester in September 2025, during the early stages of the 2025-26 campaign.

He described the incident as not particularly frightening, noting, "It wasn't like a scary moment for me... I just felt a bit under the weather to be honest." After undergoing tests, he was diagnosed with a hereditary condition that elevated his LDL cholesterol, leading to narrowings and blockages in his arteries. Singleton reflected on his family history, stating, "My dad unfortunately passed away aged 56 of a heart attack, so we think that's where it's been passed down from."

Despite the challenges, Singleton finds hope in the recovery stories of other athletes like Christian Eriksen and Daley Blind, who returned to elite sport after similar incidents. He noted, "I'm seeing the same cardiologists as them, so you know they're the top of their profession."

Having played 75 games for Gloucester and earned seven caps for England, Singleton faces uncertainty regarding his future. With his contract up in June, he understands the club's need to make decisions about the upcoming season, especially after Gloucester signed Welsh hooker Dewi Lake.

Singleton currently holds a rolling contract with Gloucester, allowing him to continue rehabilitation at Kingsholm. He remains hopeful about rejoining full-contact training soon, while also exploring opportunities with other clubs. "Hopefully something does come up and I can give the best of myself to that team," he stated, as he prepares for the next chapter in his rugby journey.
