Former British No 1 Jack Draper will need to qualify for the US Open this year, missing a direct spot in the main draw after his performance in 2024. The 24-year-old semi-finalist faces an uphill battle as he prepares to return to competitive play at the DC Open in Washington starting July 27, following a setback that kept him out of Wimbledon due to recurring bone bruising in his left arm.

In the past year, Draper has struggled significantly with injuries, participating in only a handful of tournaments. His ranking has dropped to 147th in the world, which necessitates his entry into the qualifying rounds to secure a place in the fourth and final Grand Slam of the season.

Meanwhile, Arthur Fery, the new British men's No 1, will make his debut at Flushing Meadows after an impressive run to the Wimbledon semi-finals as a wild card, propelling him to a ranking of 36th. Both Fery and Emma Raducanu, the 2021 US Open champion ranked 37th, are just outside the top 32 seeds.

The main draw will also feature other British contenders including Cam Norrie, Jan Choinski, and Katie Boulter, as the tournament kicks off on August 30.

Leading the fields are two-time defending champion Aryna Sabalenka and Jannik Sinner, the Wimbledon winner. Sabalenka aims to become the first woman to win three consecutive US Open titles since Serena Williams (2012-14), while Sinner seeks to reclaim his title after losing to Carlos Alcaraz in last year's final. Alcaraz, currently ranked third, hopes to return from a wrist injury during the North American hard-court swing.
