Awa Fam realized a lifelong ambition on April 13 when she was chosen No. 3 overall in the 2026 WNBA Draft by the Seattle Storm. Instead of heading directly to Seattle, Fam flew back to Valencia Basket to continue her season in the Liga Feminina, where she had played since age 15. For a month, she balanced life as a Valencia player by day and a Storm player by night, engaging in Zoom calls with Seattle's coaches to prepare for her transition.

Fam made her WNBA debut on May 24, just days after helping Valencia clinch a fourth consecutive LF title. In her first game, she scored 10 points in 20 minutes during a 97-85 victory over the Washington Mystics. She quickly adapted to the differences in play style between Spain and the U.S., acknowledging the faster pace and increased physicality.
