NASCAR Hall of Famer Kurt Busch shared his heartfelt emotions during his first public remarks following the death of his younger brother, Kyle Busch, who passed away on May 21 at the age of 41. Speaking on NBC’s Today show, Kurt described his experience at the hospital, where he remained hopeful for Kyle's recovery as he battled severe pneumonia that escalated into sepsis.

In a poignant moment, Kurt recalled, "I was at the hospital. I was there all day, hoping, praying, hoping for a turnaround. I said, ‘I got you man. Come on, I got you. I got you. Come on, be strong.’ It just wasn’t fair."

Kyle Busch, a two-time Cup Series champion for Joe Gibbs Racing, was known for his remarkable record of 234 combined wins across NASCAR’s top three national series. Kurt, who himself won the Cup Championship in 2004 and was inducted into the Hall of Fame this year, reflected on the deep bond they shared both on and off the track.

He recounted the troubling signs leading up to Kyle's hospitalization, noting that his brother initially dismissed his symptoms as a sinus cold while competing at Watkins Glen on May 10. Kurt also mentioned their father, Tom Busch, chose to stay away from the hospital to remember Kyle as he was in life.

Kurt emphasized the unique connection they had, stating, "Him and I were carbon copies of each other. We could speak on track without saying a word. I miss the words we never spoke to each other, and the vibe that we had on track."

Now, Kurt is channeling his energy into mentoring Brexton, Kyle's 11-year-old son, who is already showing promise in racing. "He’s a prodigy," Kurt stated, hinting at Brexton's potential future in motorsports.

As for Kyle's legacy, Kurt asserted, "It’s already there. Winningest driver in NASCAR history in all the series. The tenacity that he had... it will all shine as time puts different things in spotlights."
