Colin Kazim-Richards acknowledges the significant challenge ahead for Crawley Town, currently sitting at the bottom of League Two after seven games. Despite the tough start, he expresses optimism for better times, emphasizing that their league position reflects only part of the situation.

During a recent training session, Kazim-Richards, alongside assistant Julian Gray, discussed the ongoing efforts to improve the team. Having joined Crawley in April, they managed to avert relegation on the final day last season. Kazim-Richards remarked:

"The results are not showing the work we’ve done; it’s more a case of when the process is going to start showing."

He highlighted the integration of 16 new players and the complexities of building team chemistry and mentality, stating that changing the club’s dynamics is a long-term endeavor.

Kazim-Richards and Gray, both having roots in the Arsenal academy, draw on their experiences to shape Crawley’s future. Gray, with a background in youth coaching, insists on improving players regardless of age, emphasizing the importance of understanding their needs.

Crawley has faced turmoil recently, including the controversial ban of former manager John Yems for anti-discrimination breaches. Following a change in ownership to KB Sports and Leisure, Kazim-Richards became only the third black head coach in the top four tiers of English football. He stated:

"Is there still a glass ceiling? Of course. There’s a lot of black coaches who are good and deserve an opportunity, 100%."

While discussing the challenges faced by black managers, Kazim-Richards referenced the recent sacking of Jermain Defoe at Woking, emphasizing that failures occur across all demographics in management.

With aspirations to elevate Crawley to the Championship, Kazim-Richards remains committed to the club’s objectives, recognizing that success will require both time and persistence. He concluded:

"I believe we can go far and achieve those objectives. We’d love to be given that time."
