Rory McIlroy has expressed that having Bryson DeChambeau participate in the Irish Open this September would significantly enhance the tournament's appeal. Despite previously criticizing DeChambeau for his actions during the Open Championship, where he was penalized for "inadvertently improving his lie", McIlroy acknowledged the American's potential positive impact on the event at Trump International Golf Links in Doonbeg.

After finishing one under par with a final round of 71 at Royal Birkdale, McIlroy stated, "Having someone like Bryson at the Irish Open would be great for the tournament, absolutely."

As he prepares for the PGA Tour play-offs in mid-August, McIlroy reflected on his shifting priorities regarding the PGA Tour and the FedEx Cup. The 37-year-old admitted he is feeling less excitement about the tour after achieving his career Grand Slam, noting, "It just sort of ebbs and flows."

He elaborated on his current mindset:

• Focus on top 30: He mentioned that the new format has altered his approach, indicating that he only needs to be in the top 30 to contend for the FedEx Cup.

Reflecting on his performance at The Open, he described a frustrating week, stating, "I just felt like any time I got a little bit of momentum out there, I seemed to make a bogey. Just one of those weeks I couldn't get it going."
