Thomas Carty’s team responded to the controversial ending of his heavyweight fight against Dave Allen on Saturday, which took place on the undercard of Katie Taylor’s retirement event at Croke Park in Dublin.

The bout concluded unexpectedly in the first round when Carty fell through the ropes, leading to a declared no-contest after medical intervention. Carty, 30, was seen being escorted from the ring on his feet following the incident.

In a statement released by his team, they detailed that:

• Carty had received two illegal blows to the back of his head.
• The second blow caused him to lose balance, leading him to grab the ropes, which gave way and resulted in him falling headfirst onto a ringside table.
• This incident led to a suspected concussion, prompting the ringside doctor to stop the fight.
• Carty received a brain scan at the hospital and is now recovering at home.

A replay suggested that Allen struck Carty during a clinch preceding the fall. Allen, 34, expressed his bewilderment on Instagram, stating, “I’ve had some bizarre moments in my career but this might top it.” He emphasized the importance of Carty’s health and remarked on enjoying the event, despite the odd circumstances.

When asked about his feelings regarding the fight's conclusion, Allen admitted he was annoyed, noting he felt he was performing well before the incident. He described the situation as open to interpretation, emphasizing his respect for Carty as a fighter and a person.
