The cricket boards of Scotland and the Netherlands have voiced their strong criticism of the International Cricket Council (ICC) for recent structural changes to the men’s 50-over World Cup. The ICC's announcement last month revealed that the main tournament in 2027 would feature 12 teams in two groups of six, a reduction from the originally planned 14 teams.

Key changes include:

• Three lowest-ranked qualifiers will now enter a preliminary three-team Super Series.
• Only the winner of this series will advance to the main group stage.

This new format poses significant challenges for teams like Scotland and the Netherlands, who now face three qualifying tournaments to reach the World Cup's main stage.

In a joint statement, Cricket Scotland and the Royal Dutch Cricket Association (KNCB) expressed their "significant concerns" regarding the impact of these changes and the lack of transparency in how they were introduced. They stated that such alterations could undermine the integrity and credibility of international cricket and emphasized the need for better governance and decision-making processes.

The boards criticized the short notice of these changes, which they argue creates uncertainty and adds operational and financial pressure on organizations already working with limited resources. Despite being present at the ICC's annual conference in Edinburgh in June, they noted that most associate members were left uninformed about these pivotal changes.

Both boards remain committed to working with the ICC but labeled the handling of discussions as "disrespectful". They highlighted their attempts to seek clarity and official communication from the ICC after their meetings, which have gone unanswered for over two weeks, raising further disappointment regarding the ongoing dialogue.

This statement comes in light of earlier concerns from the World Cricketers' Association regarding the decision.
