Since his debut with AS Roma, Donyell Malen has taken European football by storm, scoring 20 goals, surpassing notable players such as Harry Kane (16) and Lamine Yamal (15). His impressive tally positions him as the leading scorer across the top five leagues: Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, and Ligue 1 during this period.

Malen's contributions extend beyond goals, as he also leads in combined goals and assists with 22, ahead of stars like Bruno Fernandes (20), Lamine Yamal (19), and Harry Kane (18). His impact on the pitch has been unmatched, making him a pivotal player in front of goal.

The stark contrast with his time at Aston Villa is noteworthy. In 46 appearances for the Premier League club, the 27-year-old scored just 10 goals and provided 2 assists. Since joining Roma, he has netted 21 goals and assisted 3 times in only 25 matches. His scoring efficiency improved significantly, going from one goal every 149.8 minutes at Villa to one every 96.7 minutes in Rome.

This transformation can be attributed to his new role within the team. At Villa, Malen played across the frontline, spending only 52% of his league minutes as a central striker. In contrast, under manager Gian Piero Gasperini, 99% of his Serie A minutes have been spent in a central position, making him the focal point of Roma's attack.

French football journalist Julien Laurens noted after Roma's 1-1 Champions League draw with Fenerbahce that Malen has become essential to Gasperini's strategy, stating, "He has been incredible since January. He has been really efficient, super clinical. Malen is at the heart of everything they do with the ball." This underscores the tactical shift that has unlocked Malen's potential, solidifying his status as a top scorer in Europe.
