Just under a year ago, Harry Brook faced uncertainty over his future as England's white-ball captain. Fast forward to the present, and Brook has established himself as England's most crucial player and arguably the best multi-format batter in the world.

His remarkable innings of 202 against Sri Lanka showcased his exceptional talent, marking the first double hundred by an Englishman in an ODI. This feat surpassed the previous record of 182 held by Ben Stokes and set a new benchmark for the fastest double ton in ODIs, achieved in just 114 balls.

Brook's achievements include:

• A hundred in T20s, a double hundred in ODIs, and a triple century in Tests, joining the ranks of Chris Gayle.

Despite his personal success, England suffered a loss in one of the most thrilling ODIs, with Sri Lanka achieving the second-highest run chase in history. Brook, who prioritizes team victories over individual accolades, expressed disappointment at the outcome.

Ranked as the best Test batter by the International Cricket Council, Brook boasts an impressive average of 53.08 in Tests and stands above legends like Joe Root and Alastair Cook in terms of averages since 1968. He also excels in T20 internationals with an average of 36.21 at a strike rate of 164.92.

Brook's captaincy has seen him perform better, averaging 31 runs more in ODIs as captain. However, he faces a heavy workload, having played every England fixture since last September, with a demanding schedule ahead.

Looking to the future, Brook aims to improve further, acknowledging he is not yet the finished product. With upcoming challenges, including the 2024 Ashes and World Cup, he has the opportunity to solidify his legacy and possibly lead England to significant victories.

Despite recent struggles in England’s ODI performances, including poor bowling displays and dropped catches, Brook's leadership will be crucial as the team seeks to advance in the tri-series. England must win their next two matches to reach the final, echoing Brook's own remarkable turnaround over the past year.
