Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy celebrated his team’s stunning victory after dismantling the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series (NLCS), marking a historic end to the Dodgers' season. Murphy’s words echoed through the Dodger Stadium clubhouse: “They got a bunch of Hall of Famers. We got a bunch of gamers.”

This triumph was particularly significant as the Brewers became the first team to avenge an NLCS sweep by defeating the same team the following season. With a franchise-best 103 wins in the regular season, Milwaukee dethroned a Dodgers squad that aimed to achieve a third consecutive World Series title.

In Game 4, despite the Dodgers initially leading 4-0, the Brewers rallied back. Key moments included:

• Jake Bauers’ pivotal contributions:
  • Game 2: An epic 12-pitch walk against Dodgers ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
  • Game 3: An 11-pitch at-bat culminating in a franchise-defining home run.
  • Game 4: A crucial double and a bases-loaded walk tying the game.

Garrett Mitchell’s sixth-inning solo home run secured the lead, and Aaron Ashby’s old-school save clinched the victory. The Brewers now advance to their first World Series since 1982, preparing to face either the Tampa Bay Rays or Cleveland Guardians.

Conversely, the Dodgers, despite their high payroll and star-studded roster, struggled against strong teams, finishing 38-37 against opponents above .500. Shohei Ohtani, the league’s premier two-way player, faced challenges, hitting a low during the series. Manager Dave Roberts acknowledged the unpredictability of baseball, emphasizing that despite efforts and investments, nothing is guaranteed.

The Dodgers’ season, marked by a $340 million payroll, serves as a reminder that in baseball, true success often lies beyond financial might.
