Haissem Hassan, the breakout star of the 2023 World Cup, is reportedly on his way to Celtic, with a medical scheduled in Glasgow after the club agreed to an initial £6m transfer fee with Real Oviedo, potentially rising to £9m.

This transfer would mark Celtic's third signing this summer as they prepare for a crucial Champions League play-off against LASK. Manager Martin O'Neill emphasizes quality over quantity, aiming to rebuild a squad that has seen over a dozen departures since last season’s league and Scottish Cup double.

Despite only playing 126 minutes during the World Cup, Hassan significantly enhanced his reputation. Initially sidelined due to a paperwork delay, he made a notable impact when introduced in Egypt's last-32 match against Australia, contributing to their penalty shootout win. In a standout performance against Argentina, he assisted Mostafa Zico's goal, showcasing his ability to deliver precise passes.

Hassan's dynamic dribbling and direct running were highlighted during Egypt's disallowed goal in their narrow 3-2 defeat to the defending champions. Over his two World Cup outings, he attempted nine dribbles at a remarkable rate of 6.4 per 90 minutes.

Born in France, Hassan previously played for the French U-17 and U-18 teams before switching to represent Egypt, where his father was born. His club career began at Chateauroux, followed by a stint at Villarreal and loans to Mirandes and Sporting Gijon. In 2024, he joined Oviedo, where he played a pivotal role in their promotion, scoring four goals and providing three assists, although he struggled in La Liga last season with no goals in 37 appearances.
