Last winter, Ollie Robinson and England were living separate lives on the same continent. While England struggled through five Tests amidst the chaos of Bazball, Robinson played grade cricket for the University of Sydney, with no thoughts of representing England.

Fast forward eight months, and Robinson's fortunes have dramatically shifted. After being dropped in 2024 due to concerns over his fitness and attitude, he made a stunning return in June, taking three wickets in his first over at Lord’s. He finished with seven wickets in that Test, earning the player of the match award.

After a knee injury sidelined him for the Tests against New Zealand, Robinson returned to dominate against Pakistan, securing two more player of the match awards and claiming 16 wickets at an impressive average of 7.18.

What led to this transformation? Robinson seems to have matured, working on his fitness and stamina while rediscovering his love for cricket in Australia. Paul Farbrace, Robinson's stepfather and Sussex head coach, noted that while he hasn’t changed drastically, his stock has risen in the absence from the team. The change in England's coaching staff also played a crucial role, allowing Robinson to showcase his skills.

Farbrace emphasized the importance of giving Robinson responsibility, particularly after making him captain at Sussex. His consistent performance has caught attention, and he has thrived under pressure.
