The DP World Tour has announced a firm stance regarding players who opt to join LIV Golf, stating that any player signing up for LIV next season will be barred from membership in 2027. This decision marks a significant shift in policy as the European tour emphasizes the necessity for players to "make a choice" about their participation.

Key points from the announcement include:

• Players must be members of the DP World Tour to compete for Europe in the Ryder Cup.
• The deadline for players to declare their tour intentions is within the next five weeks.
• Guy Kinnings, CEO of the DP World Tour, stated, "We have rules and regulations which are there to protect our tour and which our members must all abide by."

Previously, top players like Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton received conditional releases allowing them to participate in both tours. However, moving forward, players will need to specify which tours they intend to play on, influencing their membership decisions.

Currently, around 15 players, including Victor Perez and Tom McKibbin, hold a status with the DP World Tour, allowing eligibility under certain membership categories. Conversely, players such as Joaquin Niemann and Thomas Pieters lack this status and must either qualify or secure agreements to participate in select tournaments.

The DP World Tour has clarified that it will not accept members who plan to engage with what is being termed LIV 2.0. Failure to disclose intentions to join LIV could lead to termination of membership. This announcement comes amid uncertainty surrounding LIV Golf’s future, especially after its filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in September and recent efforts to secure $300 million in funding for the upcoming season.
