In a dramatic twist during stage five of the Giro d’Italia on Wednesday, Igor Arrieta from UAE Team Emirates-XRG claimed victory despite a wrong turn, while Afonso Eulálio of Bahrain Victorious seized the overall lead.

The stage, marked by rain and challenging conditions, saw Eulálio initially in control until he slid off the road with 7km remaining in the 203km race. As Arrieta caught up, he faced his own setback, taking a wrong turn at a junction, but ultimately managed to recover and sprint past Eulálio in the final moments.
