Manchester United is set to renew its interest in David Raum, the captain of RB Leipzig, as manager Michael Carrick aims to bolster the left side of his defense in 2027. The 28-year-old Germany international finds himself in the final year of his Leipzig contract, making him a potential target for a reduced fee in January.

Initially, United had considered Raum during the summer but shifted their focus to strengthening the midfield instead. Now, with Leipzig eager to avoid losing their captain for nothing next summer, Raum’s contract situation makes him a more viable option.

Key Points:

• Raum has reportedly given a green light to a move to Manchester United.
• Juventus is also interested, but United is seen as a strong contender.
• Raum’s contract expires in June 2027, with no extension agreed yet, prompting Leipzig to potentially entertain offers in January.
• A fee of around £30 million could initiate negotiations.

Raum could provide the experience United desperately needs. Left-back remains a priority for the club, especially with Luke Shaw nearing the end of his contract at 31 years old. The club has also explored alternatives like Alejandro Balde and Lewis Hall.

Reports indicate that Raum is keen on joining United, despite interest from Juventus and other European clubs. His experience as Leipzig's captain and a regular Germany international, combined with his attacking capabilities, make him an attractive option.

The central question remains whether United will invest approximately £30 million for a player who might be available for free in just a few months. However, delaying until summer could intensify competition for his signature. If United views Raum as essential to their defensive strategy, January could be the optimal time to secure his services.
