George Russell has candidly recognized the necessity for improvement if he aims to remain competitive in the title race this season. Initially the favorite, Russell now finds himself trailing his teenage Mercedes teammate Kimi Antonelli by 25 points after nine rounds of racing.

Despite facing several setbacks, both drivers have encountered misfortunes. Antonelli experienced an engine failure in Barcelona and fell from a potential victory to outside the points in the recent British Grand Prix due to another technical issue.

At Silverstone, Russell managed to secure second place, gaining 18 points on Antonelli, despite a lack of pace. He remarked, "The feeling of the car was good, but the lap times were slow. I need to be better. I need to be working better with my team. We need to be maximizing everything."

With Lewis Hamilton only seven points behind Russell after finishing third, the competition intensifies. Russell noted, "We've got a close fight now with Ferrari... It needs to be improved."

Russell acknowledged that Antonelli deserves his lead, stating, "He has done a better job than me this year to this point, so he deserves to be ahead of me."

Reflecting on the season's challenges, he emphasized, "Whether it should be 25 points or not is debatable, but I think anywhere from 10 to 30 points behind is probably about fair." Russell's focus remains on enhancing his own performance as the season progresses.
