George Russell expressed his frustration after experiencing a season filled with misfortune, particularly following an engine issue at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Starting from sixth place, Russell encountered an anti-stall problem that caused him to drop to the back of the field right from the start.

Despite the setback, he managed to navigate through the field to finish in seventh place. However, this result further widened the gap in the championship standings, with Kimi Antonelli, his Mercedes teammate, leading by 50 points over Lewis Hamilton and 59 points over Russell himself.

Russell shared his feelings about the team's struggles:

The problems are happening, but the whole team feels it as well. They're as p****d off as I am with how it's unfolded.

• He also noted, "It's not like we're the only one, but it does feel like it is happening substantially more to me than others."

Reflecting on the race, he described the engine behavior before the start:

I was on the throttle waiting then all of a sudden the engine was going all over the place, it was revving really high and really low.

Russell's season has been plagued by various issues, including a battery failure during the Canadian Grand Prix, a penalty for speeding in Monaco, and a collision in Belgium. He acknowledged that while there are things he can control, many factors are beyond his influence.

Adopting a positive mindset, he stated, "I'm sort of past the point of disappointment now," emphasizing the need to focus on the positives, such as his strong pace during the race.

Toto Wolff, team principal of Mercedes, commented on the potential for engine penalties, expressing hope that they could avoid such a situation as they strategize for the rest of the season.
