After reducing his points gap to Kimi Antonelli from 68 to just 25 in previous rounds, Russell faced a setback when his race ended prematurely due to a collision with Lewis Hamilton just five corners in, causing him to fall 50 points behind in the standings.

Despite his frustration aimed at ongoing power issues with his Mercedes car rather than Hamilton, Russell remains committed to his championship quest. In a social media post, he stated:

Toto Wolff, the team principal, explained that Russell's difficulties stemmed from two separate problems affecting the car's performance, particularly its straight-line speed.
