UK Sport has announced a strategic shift in funding, deciding to stop channeling investment through GB Snowsport. Instead, it aims to deliver £12.5 million directly to athletes and coaches ahead of the 2030 Winter Olympics and Paralympics.

This decision follows Team GB's remarkable performance at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, where they secured five medals, including three golds, marking a historic achievement in snow sports. The funding announcement is part of a broader investment exceeding £33 million into winter sports for the upcoming four-year cycle.

Key points from the announcement include:

• All snowsport athletes currently receiving funding will continue to have their grants paid directly.
• UK Sport plans to initiate an independent review of GB Snowsport's governance.
• The director of performance at UK Sport, Kate Baker, emphasized the need for impactful investment amid increasing competition in winter sports.

In response, GB Snowsport expressed disappointment but affirmed its commitment to collaborate with UK Sport, stating it would explore all options to maintain the progress achieved in recent years. The organization is also in the process of appointing a new chair after experiencing two leadership changes in three years.

The funding allocation includes:

• £10 million for bobsleigh and skeleton, which contributed to Team GB’s success.
• £6.54 million for curling and £1.93 million for wheelchair curling.
• £2 million for ice skating and £445,000 for ice hockey to aid in transitioning to a self-sustainable model.

Looking ahead, the formation of a new organization, Sport Org, will manage funding for bobsleigh and skeleton from 2030 onwards, enhancing the support structure for elite performance in winter sports.
