Ipswich Town has officially appointed Gary O’Neil as their new manager as they gear up for their return to the Premier League. The 43-year-old, previously at French club Strasbourg, has signed a three-year deal lasting until the summer of 2029.

O’Neil expressed his excitement on the club’s website, stating, "It is an honour to be appointed manager of this great football club. I have followed the progress the club has made over the last few years closely, and to now have the opportunity to lead Ipswich Town in the Premier League is something I am hugely excited by."

He takes over from Kieran McKenna, who stepped down after five years, having successfully guided Ipswich to automatic promotion from the Championship last season after their relegation from the top flight.

O’Neil, who previously managed Bournemouth and Wolves, led Strasbourg to the semi-finals of the European Conference League and the Coupe de France. He becomes just the 20th manager in the club’s 90-year history. His backroom staff will include Tim Jenkins, Neil Critchley, and Ed Ames, all of whom have worked with him in France.

Chairman Mark Ashton highlighted O’Neil's potential, saying, "Despite being just a few years into his managerial career, he has already shown he knows what is required to succeed in the Premier League. He brings a hunger and desire to succeed at the top level of the game."

In other news, Aaron Ramsey has been appointed head coach at Oxford United, replacing Matt Bloomfield, who was sacked after the club lost their Championship status. Ramsey, a former Wales international with a distinguished playing career, expressed his eagerness for the role, noting the club's ambition and desire for success. His coaching staff will be announced soon.
