Ipswich Town has officially appointed Gary O'Neil as their new manager, replacing Kieran McKenna, who stepped down earlier this month. The 43-year-old former Wolves and Bournemouth boss signed a three-year deal after leaving Strasbourg, where he had been in charge since January.

Strasbourg received a fee estimated at 5 million euros (£4.3 million), including add-ons, as O'Neil still had two years remaining on his contract. Last season, he guided Strasbourg to an impressive eighth place in Ligue 1 and led the team to the Europa Conference League semi-finals, marking their first appearance in the last four of a European competition.

In his statement, O'Neil expressed his excitement, stating, "It is an honour to be appointed manager of this great football club," and emphasized the strong vision and ambition at Ipswich. He acknowledged the responsibility that comes with the role, especially given the club's significance to its supporters and the community.

O'Neil will be joined by coaches Tim Jenkins and Neil Critchley, with whom he worked in France. He aims to foster a style of play that encourages his team to express themselves on the ball while focusing on accumulating enough points to not just achieve safety, but to grow as a club.

Kieran McKenna, who led Ipswich back to the Premier League by finishing second in the Championship, stepped down to take a break and spend more time with his family. His tenure saw Ipswich achieve three promotions in four seasons, highlighting his successful impact on the club.
