British tennis player Fran Jones has voiced her support for an inquest into the state of UK tennis following another disappointing performance at the US Open. Jones, the last Briton in the tournament, fell to Iva Jovic, the 14th seed, on Thursday night, marking the exit of all nine British players who entered the main draw without advancing past the second round.

In a tournament where Arthur Fery, a Wimbledon semi-finalist, faced a tough first-round matchup against Lorenzo Musetti, the results were disheartening:

• Cameron Norrie, Jan Choinski, and Henry Wendelken lost in the first round.
• Jacob Fearnley, Toby Samuel, Katie Boulter, Harriet Dart, and Jones were eliminated in the second round.

Jones highlighted the absence of key players, such as former world No. 4 Jack Draper and Emma Raducanu, both sidelined due to injuries. She emphasized that there needs to be an inquiry into the struggles of British tennis, stating, "You want to see people get to the back end of tournaments. But the top players aren’t here. Jack and Emma are our best players."

Despite the setbacks, Jones acknowledged the competitive nature of the tournament, mentioning, "You have to beat the best to be the best." She believes that while the current performance is concerning, it’s not alarming, and that improvements can be made within British tennis.

Draper has faced ongoing injuries, causing a significant drop in his rankings, while Raducanu continues to battle a stress fracture in her leg, preventing her from competing in New York. Leylah Fernandez, the 31st seed and Raducanu’s 2021 final opponent, advised against rushing back into competition, emphasizing the importance of long-term recovery.
