Colombian cyclist Cristian Camilo Munoz has tragically died following a knee injury that became severely infected after a fall during the Tour du Jura. The incident occurred on Saturday, and despite initial treatment, his condition worsened, leading to his death on Friday morning.

After the crash, Munoz was treated at a medical center for an injury to his left knee. He was later examined in Oviedo, Spain, where doctors discovered a difficult-to-treat infection requiring specialized care. Unfortunately, despite the medical team's efforts, he succumbed to complications from the injury.

In response to this heartbreaking news, the Nu Colombia Continental team released a statement expressing their sorrow:

The Nu Colombia cycling team is deeply saddened to announce the death of its rider, Cristian Camilo Munoz, which occurred in the last few hours in Europe as a result of medical complications arising from the accident he suffered last Saturday during the Tour du Jura in France.

The entire team withdrew from the Vuelta Asturias ahead of stage two, and a minute's silence was observed before that day's stage. The race director's car was also adorned with a black ribbon to honor Munoz.

Munoz, who turned professional in 2017, had notable achievements, including winning the under-23 Giro Ciclistico d’Italia in 2018 and finishing third at the Vuelta a Guatemala last year. His former team, UAE Team Emirates, expressed their condolences, stating:
