EFL Cup action heats up as Liverpool prepares to host Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday, September 15, in a highly anticipated third-round clash. This match marks the entry of last season's top ten Premier League teams into the competition, promising thrilling encounters.

Both teams are still navigating transitional phases this season. While Liverpool has shown signs of improvement under new coach Andoni Iraola, Tottenham has struggled to find form. They enter this match without a goal in their last four Premier League games, a concerning statistic for manager Roberto De Zerbi. Their only win this season came against Charlton Athletic, and they share the dubious distinction of being the only team alongside Coventry City without a goal in the league.

Key points to consider:

• Liverpool has recorded only two clean sheets in five competitive matches this season, raising questions about their defensive stability.
• Tottenham's attacking woes were highlighted in their recent 0-0 draw with Everton, where they struggled to create meaningful chances, registering just 0.64 expected goals.

As both teams look to regain momentum, the upcoming match against Aston Villa for Spurs could provide insights into their readiness for the EFL Cup.

In other news, rising star Cavan Sullivan of the Philadelphia Union continues to impress, boasting five goals and seven assists in just ten games since the World Cup break. His performances have sparked discussions about a potential call-up to the U.S. men's national team under coach Mauricio Pochettino. With the international break approaching, Sullivan's form could be pivotal as the national team seeks fresh talent.

As the EFL Cup progresses, all eyes will be on the performances of Liverpool and Tottenham, as both teams aim to turn their seasons around.
