Folarin Balogun has addressed the controversy surrounding his participation in the match against Belgium on Monday, clarifying that he had no involvement in the decision to overturn his one-match ban. Despite receiving a red card in the previous game against Bosnia and Herzegovina, Balogun was controversially allowed to play, a decision that has drawn scrutiny.

The circumstances leading to the suspension of his ban remain murky, with Donald Trump reportedly lobbying FIFA President Gianni Infantino on the matter. Ultimately, Balogun’s presence on the field did not prevent the United States from suffering a 4-1 defeat to Belgium.

In a post-match interview, Balogun expressed, "Of course, it’s controversial when the decision is overturned. We accepted the decision when I saw the red card, and we accepted the decision when we were told I could play. I was not involved in the process. It had nothing to do with me personally."

After the game, Balogun congratulated Belgium coach Rudi Garcia on the victory, with Garcia noting, "He’s not to blame. He didn’t do anything wrong. I respect him."

The Belgian Football Association (RBFA) has yet to announce whether it will pursue further action regarding the overturned ban. US coach Mauricio Pochettino expressed his disappointment over the political implications overshadowing the team’s World Cup exit, stating, "It didn’t affect our performance. It’s not an excuse. It wasn’t our day," while lamenting the negative attention directed at Balogun.
